thewphaingarm news
short update of information:
well, the first week of school has gone well. and now i sit at work, on saturday, making up for having a full week of holiday this coming week, sonkran week, the thai new year.
being at this school has made me realize all the shit i put up with in phuket. organization, resources, budget, good salary, in a good location, students who fully respect the teachers...it is amazing. i have finally been able to go to school without rin, making the journey from his friend's place in prachacheu to school here in bangkoknoi. an hour an a half, by bus, which without traffic this morning, took 30 minutes. the traffic here is killer. but as long as you know it will take a long time, it is not as hard to deal with.
for my dear mother, here is the address of the school i am working at:
http://www.tpg.ac.th/
i am working in the tsep program (Thewphaingarm School English Program) in which the students learn everything except for Thai and Thai culture in English. so this past week i have been teaching math to little ones...something i didn't ever picture myself doing. there are 14 teachers, and i am, once again, the only woman. right now is summer school, but as of the 15th of may i will be teaching kindergarten once again. fun fun! the kids are amazing.
we found a place to live, a place much like the first place i lived in phuket, a big room on the corner with lots of windows, fully furnished, air con, hot water, an elevator, and a view of the river, so nice. it is about a five minute walk from school, and we will move in on the first of the month.
at any rate, i should get going. we have a celebration with the owner, mr. thew himself today. a celebration for sonkran, where out of respect we pour water on his hands and say something sweet. should be interesting.
then, after work, rin is meeting me here and we are going to take the train to his house, yes, back into the jungle for a week. then, next monday, i'm heading to penang to get my visa sorted out. so i am not sure when i will have access to the internet, but i will do my best.
wish me luck with the spiders and bats (will post second part, promise.)
also, just found this, a website for my program: http://en.tpg.ac.th/index.cfm?menuid=17

Do you send a lot of letters by regular post? My friends and I are addicted to email but are looking for people to send actual mail to, I immediately thought of you and your site for some reason. Thought I would post the question here.
